There are a number of opportunities coming up for members to serve on the BLTG committee so please get involved and help to shape the future of BLTG.
Detailed below are the elected committee posts that are coming to the end of tenure in September 2022:
BLTG Chair - elected by the membership. The post holder will serve for a period of up to 3 years and may be re-elected once. The BLTG Chair is a member of the BASL Governing Board and sits on the BASL Committee:

Transplant Hepatology Representative - elected by the membership and will serve for a period of 3 and 2 years alternating - this post is for a period of 3 years.
Transplant Surgery Representative - elected by the membership and will serve for a period of 2 and 3 years alternating - this post is for a period of 2 years.
Nursing Representative (x1 post) - elected by the membership and will serve for a period of 2 years. The 2 x nursing representatives represent patient care before and after liver transplantation respectively.

Nomination Process
Please send your nominations, clearly stating the position that your nomination is for, to the BASL Secretariat at judy@basl.org.uk by the deadline of 09:00hrs Tuesday 19th July 2022.
Candidates wishing to be considered for nomination must be a member of BASL and will require one BASL member to propose them and a second BASL member to confirm their suitability for the role in writing. (Proposing and seconding of candidates can be done by email.)
If more than one candidate is nominated for a particular post the Secretariat will arrange for an election of all members. Should an election need to take place the Secretariat will contact the candidates and request a personal statement. The statement should contain no more than 300 words and permission will be requested to share the personal statements with the BASL membership. (Personal statements are intended for this purpose only.)
The successful candidate will be elected by a simple majority of those members voting.
Newly elected committee members will join the BASL and/or BLTG committee after the BLTG Transplant Meeting in September, which is being held as part of the BASL Annual Meeting in Leeds from 20th- 23rd September 2022.

The Gilead UK & Ireland 2022 Viral Hepatitis Fellowship Grants Programme is now accepting applications for funding. The Fellowship Programme is a medical grants funding stream that helps drive innovative diagnostic/care models and supports best practice sharing initiatives amongst healthcare professionals. Since 2008, the programme has supported over 300 projects within several therapy areas. Its ultimate aim is to help improve the lives of patients, in the field of viral hepatitis, with a focus on hepatitis delta virus (HDV).
This year, they are inviting applications from healthcare (e.g., clinicians, nurses, pharmacists) or allied (e.g., clinical researchers, laboratory technicians) professionals for proposals that evaluate existing, or implement and evaluate new, innovative initiatives focused on increasing appropriate HDV testing alone or in combination with hepatitis B, with subsequent liver management.
Priority will be given to those projects that focus on the optimisation of the pathways for the diagnosis and management of HDV. Gilead particularly welcomes any project that demonstrates replicable and scalable potential.
Projects that fall outside of this scope, but which will add clinical value, or which investigate an area of unmet need in the field of HDV can also be submitted. All applications will be reviewed and appraised based on their individual merit and focus on driving positive change in patient care.
Please note that any applications which generate specific patient clinical outcomes (either classified as interventional or non-interventional studies according to EUDRACT criteria) cannot be accepted. These fall under the category of a clinical trial and, as such, will be considered out of scope of the Fellowship Programme.

Applications are invited from any UK Hepatology SpR to be the Trainee representative on the Hepatology National Specialty Group of the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) for a term of two years.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn about clinical trials feasibility and delivery, as well as gain valuable experience in research leadership. The Trainee will join the 15 Local CRN (LCRN) Leads on the Group and will work with/obtain mentorship from the LCRN Lead for his/her geographic region of work. Prior experience/involvement in clinical studies on the UKCRN Portfolio is desirable, as is a desire to work in the future as a Principal Investigator and potentially take on a role in the CRN. The Trainee member will also be expected to take an interest in one of the Group's themes (Industry studies, patient and public involvement [PPI], Communications).
Applications should take the form of a research CV and a maximum 200 word description of the reason(s) for applying and expected individual gains.

Overview
The BSG/BASL NAFLD special interest group has developed a series of evidence-based quality standard recommendations, with the aim of improving the care of people with NAFLD. It is known that NAFLD is common, affecting 25% of the UK population and management of the condition is variable. Individuals with NAFLD have an increased risk of overall mortality compared with the general population, and common causes of death include cardiovascular disease, malignancy and liver-related complications. A holistic approach is therefore needed to address liver disease, as well as cardio-metabolic risk factors.
The recommendations were developed using a modified Delphi process by a multidisciplinary group of 29 individuals from all disciplines involved in the management of people with NAFLD, and cover: 1. Management of people with, or at risk of, NAFLD before the gastroenterology or liver clinic; 2. Assessment and investigations in secondary care; 3. Management in secondary care. We have also developed 11 auditable key performance indicators (KPIs) to enable service to review the care of their patients and benchmark their practice.

The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Archive and Museum are recording the experiences of healthcare workers and of those close to them during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Those working in healthcare have been at the forefront of protecting society throughout the pandemic; help us to document your experiences by completing the survey linked to below.
Your experiences may become part of the 2023 RCP at Regent’s Park exhibition, ‘Sharing doctors’ voices; experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic’. Featuring photos, stories, recorded interviews, and objects, this exhibition will centre the voices of individuals, demonstrating the effects of the pandemic on the people working to combat it, in their own words.

Following a systematic audit of the National Nominating Organisations (NNOs) in 2021 and a careful review of the roles of the large numbers of organisations who have historically been involved in nomination and citation processes, the Advisory Committee on Clinical Impact Awards (ACCIA) has reduced the number of recognised NNOs and overall number of ranking places for 2022.

Consultant Hepatologist to join the team at the South West Liver Unit.
We are committed to delivering high quality liver services to both our local population and tertiary services including pre and post liver transplant care, liver cancer treatment and TIPS to patients with liver disease in the South West region. The unit provides a supportive multi-disciplinary working environment, where sub-specialty interests can be pursued. The South West Liver Unit provides a specialist pre and post liver transplant programme with close links to Kings College Hospital. The successful candidate will share inpatient and outpatient duties with existing Hepatologists to provide the highest quality care to people with all forms of liver disease. Endoscopy interests will also be supported.
There are also additional opportunities to support undergraduate medical education at University of Plymouth Peninsula Medical School.

BASL is seeking 3 new members to join the Inclusiveness Project Working Group. To express an interest in joining the working group you must be a BASL ‘In Training’ member, a ‘Nurse’ member or an ‘Affiliate’ member.
BASL is committed to promoting equality and diversity and promoting a culture that actively values difference and recognises that people from different backgrounds and experiences can bring valuable insights to enhance the way we work. Our aim is to be an inclusive organisation, committed to providing equal opportunities throughout our membership and for our employees.
The representatives will join the working group for a maximum of 2 years.
The working group helps to advise the BASL Officers on measures to help encourage and drive inclusiveness within the organisation and they meet quarterly for a couple of hours usually on a Friday afternoon via Zoom.

A vote will then take place by these groups and the successful candidate will be elected by a simple majority of those members voting.

The tenure of the current BASL Committee Trainee Representative will come to an end at the end of March 2022 and BASL are now seeking expressions of interest for this post.
To apply for the post you must be a BASL Medically Qualified Member in Training and hold a national training number (NTN). The position is open to all trainees who are at least 24 months pre-CCT.
The Trainee Representative will serve on the BASL Committee for a maximum of 2 years.
The representative will be expected to comment on all issues pertaining to training, to ensure that trainee views are heard and that the BASL Annual Meeting and Schools of Hepatology meet trainees needs. In addition, to attend BASL Committee meetings (face to face or virtual), there are usually 4 per annum, as well as to attend the Annual Meeting. A working knowledge of Twitter is desirable and a strong link with the BSG trainee representative is helpful.
