UK Level 2 (and 3) hepatology training centres
NB centres that have not fully met the level 2 service criteria outlined below (typically on site IR treatment for HCC or TIPSS) make up any deficit with appropriate training.
6 months as dedicated Hepatology SpR in level 2 unit for completion of core training - where 4 m then an arrangement to make up the additional 2 m appropriately.

Minimum requirements for level 2 centre service:
• At least 2 WTE ‘Hepatologist’
• Specialist nurse team including alcohol liaison
• Dedicated hepatology clinics and pathways
• HCV ODN treatment centre
• 24 hour emergency endoscopy including treatment of varices
• Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt placement
• Work up and shared care arrangements for liver transplantation
• HPB MDT
• Interventional radiological treatment of HCC
• Liver Histopathology review
