Peter Hayes is Professor of Hepatology and Honorary Consultant Physician in Edinburgh University and the Royal Infirmary. He trained in Dundee, with Roger Williams at Kings and latterly with Ian Bouchier in Edinburgh. His clinical and research interests include portal hypertension, liver transplantation and viral hepatitis
Secretary - Professor Rajiv Jalan, University College, London
Dr Jalan is a Professor of Hepatology and Honorary Consultant in Hepatology at the Institute ofHepatology, University College London and Hospitals and the Royal Free Hospital. His clinical and research interests are in Liver Failure and Liver Transplantation. He has developed worldwide research collaborations to study liver failure and is a founding member of the International Chronic Liver Failure Study Group and the LiverNet, a web-based, networking, data collection and research tool.

Dr Mark Hudson, Freeman Hospital, Newcastle
Dr Andrew Bathgate, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh
Andrew Bathgate is Consultant physician at the Scottish Liver Transplant Unit and Centre for Liver and Digestive Disorders at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
His major clinical interests are liver transplantation and viral hepatitis.
Dr Ashley Brown, Imperial College London
Ashley Brown graduated from Liverpool Medical School in 1988. He completed his postgraduate training at the Liver Unit in the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and he was later awarded and MD from the University of Newcastle for research into the pharmacogenetics of alcoholic liver disease. He has worked as a consultant on a number of Liver Units in the UK and Australia, and is currently Consultant Hepatologist at St Mary's and Hammersmith hospitals, London and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London. His major clinical interests include the treatment of viral hepatitis, liver transplantation and liver cancer.
Dr Bill Griffiths, Addenbrookes, Cambridge
Dr Bill Griffiths is a Consultant Hepatologist at Addenbrooke's Hospital with specific involvement in the tertiary hepatology and liver transplant service. His main research interest is haemochromatosis and adult metabolic liver disease. Clinical interests also include EUS, ERCP and biliary disease. Dr Griffiths is responsible for Hepatology training in the East of England region.
BASIC SCIENTISTS
Dr Nathan Davies, University College, London
Nathan Davies is a Lecturer in Biochemistry at University College London. His research interests include the study of albumin and its damage and modification during disease processes; the development of biomarkers to assess the severity of liver disease; and the development of novel dialysis systems for the treatment of liver failure.
Dr Shilpa Chokshi, University College, London
Shilpa Chokshi is a Senior Scientist at the Institute of Heptology, University College London. Her research interests have largely focused on viral hepatitis, with special emphasis on the mechanisms of host immune control during hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and the pathogenesis of liver damage triggered by these viruses.
Dr Fiona Oakley, University of Newcastle
Fiona Oakley is a lecturer in the Institute of Cellular Medicine at Newcastle University. Her research interests focus on understanding the mechanisms underpinning the development and resolution of liver fibrosis at the level of molecules and genes. Of particular interest is the role of the transcription factor NF-kappaB in liver disease.
PAEDIATRIC HEPATOLOGISTS
Dr Richard Thompson,King's College London
Richard Thompson is a Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Hepatology and Honorary Consultant in the Paediatric Liver, GI and Nutrition Service, at King's College Hospital. His main area of research interest is the genetics of bile formation and cholestasis.

Professor Stefan Hübscher, Department of Pathologist
Stefan Hübscher is Professor of Hepatic Pathology at the University of Birmingham and Consultant Histopathologist at the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. Clinical and research interests are mainly focused on liver pathology, including liver transplant pathology and the pathology of hepato-biliary and pancreatic cancer

Professor Derek Manas, Consultant HPB and Transplant Surgeon
Derek Manas is a consultant Hepatobiliary and Transplant Surgeon and Director of the Transplant Institute at Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Hospital Trust and Professor of Organ Transplantation at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He has an interest in Liver Cancer, both primary and metastatic - with a special interest in treatment of HCC and Hilar CholoangioCarcinomna - and new treatment modalities.
