About Us and Join
The British Association for the Study of the Liver is dedicated to the knowledge and understanding of the biology and pathology of the liver for the optimal care of patients. BASL is composed of interested individuals from clinical medicine, clinical and basic research and allied professions.
BASL aims to:
- disseminate research findings and clinical expertise in liver disease
- promote and provide opportunities for collaboration in liver research
- provide a voice that can advise and interact with the media to raise awareness of liver disease within the UK
- to advise policymakers within the health service how to advance the provision of care for patients with liver disease within the UK

Membership
BASL is a multi-disciplinary society with more than 400 members composed of interested individuals from clinical medicine, clinical and basic research and allied professions. Your Annual subscription is used to organise the Annual Meeting held each September. The annual meeting normally consists of both clinical and basic science symposia, two state of the art talks, update lectures on contentious issues as well as selected oral and poster presentations. - discounted registration rates for the annual meeting and other relevant meetings
- discounted rates for the annual meeting dinner attendance
- free submission of abstracts for the annual meeting
- eligibility for the BASL Travel awards (for members below status of Senior Lecturer or Consultant to allow presentation of high-quality UK liver research at International meetings, including the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease)
- eligibility for the prestigious Dame Sheila Sherlock Award (to an emerging researcher in the field of liver disease, for members below status of Senior Lecturer or consultant). Applications are usually submitted to the BASL Committee three months prior to the annual meeting - details are announced.
- extended website access - news updates, job opportunities etc.

- Download the relevant direct debit form below, complete and return to the address printed on it. Unfortunately subscriptions paid for by cheque are not accepted by the Association.

Annual rates for membership are as follows:
- BASL qualified member = £60
- BASL in training member = £35
- BASL + BVHG qualified member = £100
- BASL + BVHG in training member = £55
- BASL + BVHG retired member = £80
- BASLNF nurse member = £20
- BASLNF or BVHG consultant member = £40
