Specialists welcome appointment of first Clinical Director for Liver Disease
Posted: 26 January 2010
The British Association for the Study of the Liver (BASL) welcomes the appointment of one its members, Dr Martin Lombard, as the first National Clinical Director for Liver Disease.
BASL President Professor Peter Hayes said: “We very much welcome this appointment as an appropriate response to the increasing problem of liver disease in the UK. We feel it will improve coordination and provide focus for progress.”
In October last year the BASL, together with the British Society of Gastroenterology Liver Section, published recommendations to improve delivery of liver services to patients in a report ‘A Time to Act: Improving Liver Health and Outcomes in Liver Disease’.
“We made recommendations on ways to improve outcomes of liver disease in the UK and we feel confident that with Dr Martin Lombard at the helm, we will start seeing effective action. BASL looks forward to working with him.”
