Posted: 3 August 2009

NICE has issued a positive recommendation for the use of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate as a treatment for compensated chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in adults.1 The drug has already been recommended following health technology assessments in Scotland and Wales.

The NICE technology appraisal states, ‘Tenofovir disoproxil, within its marketing authorisation, is recommended as an option for the treatment of people with HBeAgpositive or HBeAg-negative hepatitis B in whom antiviral treatment is indicated’.1
